Dopamine Tyrosine (another amino acid) Epinephrine and norepinephrine
So, if we don’t get enough of this amino acid in our body, we might encounter health issues.

2. Phenylalanine And Depression
Some studies have found that supplementing DL-Phenylalanine might be an effective antidepressant.
One study was done on 20 individuals, and 12 of them needed no further treatment after giving them 75-200 mg of this supplement for 20 days. 
While further studies have to be done, DL-Phenylalanine shows some potential.
3. Other Benefits Of Phenylalanine
A few other studies have been of supplementing Phenylalanine, but they showed mixed results.
Phenylalanine may help alleviate symptoms of alcohol withdrawal, but results are mixed  D-Phenylalanine might help with pain relief 
Other studies (on ADHD and Parkinson’s disease) showed no real benefits of supplementing Phenylalanine.

As I mentioned before, L-Phenylalanine is an essential amino acid that you get from food. Then it is converted to
L-Tyrosine and from there to L-Dopa.
D-Phenylalanine is a synthetic version, created in the lab. Even though it mirrors L-Phenylalanine, it has a different working mechanism.
So, how about DL-Phenylalanine?
Well, DL-Phenylalanine is a mixture of both, L- and D-Phenylalanine.
It is believed that this mix should get the best out of both types of the amino acid. However, more studies have to be done to confirm that.

Supplementing phenylalanine sounds like a great idea, but what if you want to get it from food?
Which food sources contain the most of this amino acid?
Many foods contain phenylalanine, so you can get it from both plant and animal products.
Soy products are a great source, and if you eat animal products, then eggs, seafood, and cheese contain a lot of it. 
If you work out a lot, and you drink proteins, then soy proteins are your go-to supplement.
The consensus is that you should eat a variety of protein foods and that’s how you’ll get enough of it in your body.

Since phenylalanine is an essential amino acid, it is of course recognized as a safe compound by the FDA.

However, high concentrations can cause brain and metabolism issues.
Also, it’s not recommended supplementing phenylalanine if you are pregnant.
So, to make a sum, do follow the daily recommended dosage, and this amino acid should cause
