Natrol Cognium Review

Cognium is a stimulant-free brain health supplement that contains only one under-researched compound, CERA Q, which contains Silk Protein Hydrolysate.

Developed by the company Natrol, this supplement could enhance memory in as little as four weeks. Other benefits include:

  • Energized brain
  • Sharp mind
  • Increased brain’s glucose uptake
  • Improved focus and cognitive function

Compared to tens of brain supplements, Natrol Cognium is the only one that we tested so far with only one compound.

Despite the lack of effective nootropics and ingredients in this supplement, we still decided to do a complete review.

The main questions we had were: Does it work? What does the science say? And should you supplement it?

Here is what we found out.

About The Brand

Cognium health supplements are produced by Natrol, which is headquartered in California. This is a brand that used to be a cosmetics company, but it then evolved into developing and producing supplements.

It’s been in the business for over 38 years, and it’s a well-respected brand. It’s known for its huge variety of dietary supplements for:

  • Beauty & healthy-aging
  • Sleep
  • General health
  • Brain health
  • Digestive health
  • And more
Besides producing Cognium, they offer a variety of other brain health supplements as well. Let’s now check the ingredients of Natrol Cognium.

Natrol Cognium Ingredients

Natrol Cognium contains only one ingredient, CERA-Q Powder. This is a 60% Silk Protein Hydrolysate.

What exactly is this compound?

CERA-Q Powder Analysis

Cera Q (also named Brain factor-7) is a unique protein that you can find in the threads of silkworm cocoons. Despite its promising effects, our search on two of our favorite sites for research – PubMed and Examine- showed 0 results about this compound’s benefits.

We couldn’t find any reliable human clinical studies or even basic know-how about this compound at first. What a bummer!

Anyhow, we continued the search on other sites and we came across a few Korean studies on this compound. Sadly, some were in the Korean language, so we didn’t understand anything.

After quite some research, we finally managed to find one in English. It showed that supplementing 280 mg of this compound can improve memory in healthy adults in just 3 weeks! [1]

Before we make any conclusions, we would need to see more studies to confirm the results. Also, a peer-reviewed, double-blind placebo study would be very welcome in this case.

Anyhow, if this only research that we found is correct, this means that supplementing Natrol Cognium should improve your memory.

But there is an issue – the optimal dosage in the study was 280 mg of Silk Protein Hydrolysate. Natrol Cognium, on the other hand, contains a special powder, which has only 60% of Silk Protein Hydrolysate.

What’s more problematic is that the recommended daily dosage by Natrol are only 2 tablets, which contain only 200 mg of CERA-Q powder, hence, only 120 mg of Silk Protein.

Basic math tells you you need to take at least 4 tablets of Cognium per day to see the results that were found in the study. This means taking a 2 times higher dosage compared to the recommended daily dosage!

We don’t know about you, but we would never do it, especially if a product contains such an under-researched compound.

It is simply too risky.

Multiple Fillers

Besides the main ingredient, you can 10 additional compounds in this supplement. We don’t know exactly what’s their role, but some of them are typical fillers found in many capsules to feel up to space or make the structure of all compounds more favorable.

Many of our favorite nootropic supplements contain zero fillers.

Cognium Side Effects – Is It Safe?

We tried over 100+ brain and nootropic supplements in the past years, but we decided not to test Natrol Cognium until more research is done because we find it too risky.

Now, it is hard to talk about side effects of CERA Q ingredient, but once more research is done, we will all know what to expect from this supplement.

Based on our experience, experimenting with under-researched supplements can bring the following side effects:

  • Headache
  • Stomach pain
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Brain fog
  • Upset stomach

So, are Natrol Cognium tablets safe?

We cannot tell, because we lack studies that would confirm the long-term safety of CERA Q. The mentioned side effects are possible, so we urge you to be careful. Do consult your doctor before you start taking this supplement if you want to be on the safe side.

However, expect that doctors will have a hard time recommending this supplement due to the lack of research.

How To Take Cognium?

If you decide to test Natrol Cognium anyway, the recommended daily dosage are 2 tablets. It is recommended to take one in the morning and the other in the evening with your meal.

We do not know what happens if you take this supplement before a meal, but it is important to follow this recommendation based on our experience with supplements.

Sometimes, supplements that are taken on an empty stomach (even if they contain only one ingredient) can cause unwanted side effects.

Cognium Reviews – What Do Others Think?

What do other users say about Natrol Cognium? First of all, how do you measure if your memory improves? Do users use some kind of tools/memory games, track results, and compare them to before/after taking Cognium?

We believe most people don’t do it. So memory improvement is mainly a subjective thing that people report, which is quite problematic.

That is why we found multiple TERRIBLE customer reviews from other experts who are reviewing nootropic supplements. They came to a similar conclusion as we did.

When it comes to user reviews, you can find mixed results. Some people are “happy” with the supplement, and others are not.

Where is the truth? As it currently stands, we lack studies to confirm the benefits of this supplement. Until we have them, we cannot recommend the product.

Where To Buy Cognium?

You can order Cognium on their official store or Amazon. They offer a 60-day money back guarantee in case you are not satisfied with the product.

However, we currently do not recommend buying this supplementCheck below for our final recommendation.

Does This Supplement Really Work?

Based on our detailed research, we found a lack of evidence of the positive effects and benefits of CERA-Q, the main ingredient Cognium. Also, this specific products contain a considerable amount of fillers, which are a stable of low-quality supplements.

Even though Natrol claims that their ingredient delivers statistically significant improvements in cognitive functions (memory), we couldn’t find data to prove that.

What’s even worse is that Cognium lacks all scientifically-proven ingredients that are usually found in high-quality brain supplements – from Bacopa Monnieri, Rhodiola Rosea, Lion’s Mane Mushroom, to Citicoline, Alpha GPC, and many others.

Based on that, we doubt that Cognium is an effective supplement, and we currently don’t recommend it.

Your Inception does not recommend buying Cognium supplement. Based on our experience and research, Cognium lacks all essential nootropics, vitamins, minerals, and other compounds that could improve your overall cognitive performance. The one ingredient in Natrol Cognium is under-researched.

In our opinion, it is way too risky to take. Instead of spending money on under-researched compounds, check our most recommended, effective, and safe nootropics by clicking on the button below.
