The formula is not open-sourced, and it contains under-researched ingredients.

Table of Contents

Onnit’s Alpha BRAIN is one of the most popular and discussed nootropic stacks I’ve ever come across. Onnit is known for its big range of nootropics, vitamins, trace minerals, and performance supplements.

When I first heard about Alpha BRAIN in 2016, I was fascinated by it. Years later, it has become one of a few nootropics on the market that has clinically proven results to improve your focus & memory. Besides, it probably has the biggest list of professional recommendations I’ve seen so far.

At the same time, many other more complex supplements hit the market. The question is: Is Alpha Brain still a great nootropic supplement? Let’s find out.

Alpha Brain review

Alpha Brain Review

The Founder of Alpha BRAIN once said: “Alpha BRAIN works the first time you try it.”

Since this is rarely the case with nootropics, I was eager to see if it is true. So I’ve decided to order a pack (90ct), try it out, and do a full review. Here I share my experience.

Week 1

I stopped taking other nootropics about a week before I started taking Alpha BRAIN. When the first test day came, I took two capsules in the morning with breakfast.

About 30 minutes after I took the capsules, I started feeling slightly more focused. There was no dramatic change of mood, but there was a mild energy push. The focus lasted for about 2-3 hours, not more. I also believe I felt a bit more motivated for the first few hours. There was no drastic change, but working was slightly more manageable.

Not bad for the first day.

I continued taking two capsules per day. Sometimes I took them on an empty stomach, sometimes after breakfast. I experienced similar results on most days- a bit of focus, a bit of additional energy, and a bit of more motivation.

Week 2

I continued taking the capsules for another week, and nothing changed. I tried taking three capsules, but there was no dramatic change. I actually felt better when I took two capsules.

I didn’t experience any side effects, but a few of my team members had some issues (you can read more about side effects below). Apart from that, I was quite satisfied with this nootropic supplement.

During my Alpha Brain Review period, I figured out that there is no doubt Alpha Brain delivers some benefits. It can increase your focus, it may improve your mood, it may improve your memory (in the mid-to-long term), and it can help with processing speed.

But is it better than other nootropic supplements? How about the side effects?

Alpha Brain Ingredients, aplha brain

Onnit Flow Blend, 650 mg

Flow Blend contains the following nootropics:

L-Tyrosine is an amino acid that appears to improve cognition during acute stressors. Research shows that L-Tyrosine also improves our working memory and well-being. It seems especially potent for people in stressful situations.

L-Theanine is an amino acid found in green teas, and it is known to be a relaxing agent that people use to reduce stress and increase alertness. It is a great nootropic to combine with caffeine for simultaneous effects.

Oat straw extract

Oat straw is believed to be a cognitive enhancer. It may improve your mood, reduce inflammation, and boost brain function. We lack studies that would confirm many of the anecdotal benefits.

Phosphatidylserine (PS) is an ingredient that is vital for cognitive function. Our body synthesizes it, but adding it as a supplement shows positive effects to improve memory and cognitive capability. This amino acid can also slow down cognitive decline.

Vitamin B6

Vitamin B6 is one of the B-vitamins, used in producing a necessary coenzyme in the body. While essential and with many small benefits, there appear to be no highly effective unique reasons to use this supplement.

Cat’s Claw Extract

Uncaria Tomentosa (Cat’s Claw) is an Amazonian vine that has been traditionally recommended for anti-inflammatory and fatigue syndromes.

Alpha Brain Ingredients

Focus Blend, 240 mg

Alpha GPC

It is a choline-containing supplement that is used by younger people for improving their memory and by older people to decrease their cognitive decline. Athletes also use Alpha GPC to enhance power output. Alpha GPC is a well-known precursor to acetylcholine.

Bacopa Monnieri extract

Bacopa Monnieri is a nootropic herb that is used as a memory booster and nootropic to improve cognition. Besides, using Bacopa monnieri can decrease anxiety. It is one of the most effective and popular adaptogen herbs.

Huperzine-A (Huperzia Serrata)

Huperzine-A is a cognitive enhancer that inhibits an enzyme that degrades the learning neurotransmitter, acetylcholine; due to this, a relative increase occurs. It belongs to the cholinergic class of molecules and may be useful in fighting the cognitive decline in the elderly. It may need to be cycled.

Onnit Fuel Blend, 65 mg

Leucine is the primary BCAA. Supplementing Leucine on its own is still beneficial and may be cheaper than BCAA mixes. L-Leucine is not a typical nootropic.

Vinpocetine is an alkaloid that is derived from the periwinkle plant, and it is among the most popular nootropics due to its cognitive effects. It is believed that taking Vinpocetine could increase the blood flow to the brain.

Pterostilbene is a methylated stilbene molecule that is used as a cognitive-booster and also for reducing cholesterol and glucose.

So much about Alpha Brain nutrition facts.

Alpha Brain Dosage

Alpha BRAIN Dosage

According to Onnit, the recommended daily dosage of Alpha Brain is two capsules per day. Since we don’t know the exact amount of each compound in this supplement, I would not recommend you to take a higher dose than recommended. That’s the way to avoid an overdose with Alpha Brain.

When to take Alpha BRAIN?

It is recommended to take Alpha Brain in the morning before or with your breakfast. Take two capsules per day for optimal effect.

Alpha BRAIN Benefits

What are the benefits of taking Alpha Brain pills? It supports brain functions such as memory, focus, and mental speed. You can expect to achieve better cognitive performance and to be more productive.

How long does Alpha Brain last?

Based on my experience, the effects of Alpha Brain last from two to four hours.

Alpha BRAIN Side Effects

One of the most significant issues with the Alpha Brain supplement is a few side effects that many users report.

In general, Alpha Brain is considered safe. However, I’ve been noticing a lot of users report stomach issues and headaches when supplementing it. I never had problems when taking it and following the recommended daily dosage. But people from my team also experienced issues with headaches and even brain fog.

Based on my research, I believe that most people won’t experience any side effects. But if they happen, do stop taking it and find an alternative supplement.

Can You Build Up A Tolerance To Alpha BRAIN?

There is no evidence that you can build up a tolerance. However, this supplement contains a few ingredients that you need to cycle. I usually follow 5 days on, 2 days off formula. It is just my recommendation to minimize the risks.

Alpha BRAIN Reviews & Feedbacks

Alpha BRAIN used to be one of the most widely used nootropic stacks. Out of over 450 reviews on the Onnit website, the average review is over 4,2/5 stars.

“I liked Alpha after the first few weeks but i figured it wasnt worth it. After a month and a half of using it i started to notice major differences in my focus, motivation, and overall cognitive function. TOTALLY WORTH IT!”

“Ive been on this for a few months now, feels like w-d40 in my brain, able to recall information i would think is forgotten from months ago. Less of that gimme a minute to remember, transitions between thoughts are smoother. Definitely happy with my purchase. Would recommend to anyone”

Clinical studies support alpha BRAIN effectiveness; therefore, I honestly expected such great reviews. However, as soon as you dig deeper, you’ll see that many people reported side effects and other issues. So you have to be careful!

Is Alpha Brain A Good Supplement?

Does Alpha Brain Work? Yes, Alpha Brain can improve your cognitive performance. However, there are better nootropic stacks available on the market.

The major issues we see with Alpha Brain are the lack of certain effective nootropics, adverse side effects that many people report, and the fact that we don’t know the exact amount of all ingredients in their formula.

We imagine that some people are satisfied with this supplement, but we would recommend a better-dosed product with more effective ingredients at a better price. If you can click on the button below, you can find our top recommendations.
