Bulletproof coffee is an energy booster that can increase your energy, and focus, and make your day super-productive. But is it better than regular coffee? And is it healthy? Check out my full Bulletproof Coffee review.
What Exactly Is This Coffee?
It’s been years since I tried Bulletproof Coffee for the first time. I heard about it from my friend, who tried to convince me that mixing coffee with butter and coconut oil instead of eating my morning healthy breakfast is the way to improve my energy level and productivity.
I hesitated a bit, but finally, I decided to try it out and see what happens. What happened was quite a shock!
Bulletproof coffee is organic coffee, blended with grass-fed unsalted butter and coconut oil or so-called MCT oil.
I know you are asking yourself why in the hell would anyone put butter and coconut oil into the coffee?
Well, one reason could be that it dramatically increases your energy level.
Yup, mixing caffeine and healthy fats will help you have a kick-ass start of the day.
But can you handle it?
I’ve been drinking Bulletproof coffee probably every week for the past few years. Not only I enjoy its taste, but the benefits that it delivers are just amazing.
When I first drank it, I was shocked. Honestly, I wasn’t sure about the taste, but the kick I got was awesome.
I am well aware of the placebo effect, but in this case, I can tell you – forget about the placebo effect.
So, Bulletproof coffee is a super-strong energy-booster.
Yes, it definitely works, and it’ll impress you, no doubt about that.
If you want to improve your mood, energy level, and stay focused for hours, Bulletproof coffee is a product for you.
My Experience
My experience with Bulletproof coffee has definitely been fascinating. Every time I drink it, I get a huge energy kick that lasts for hours.
My focus increases, I get a lot of energy, and I feel extra productive.
The most significant advantage of drinking this coffee is that the effects last for hours, much longer compared to just drinking regular coffee.
Also, the “crash” that usually comes after drinking coffee never happens.
This is because of the combination of grass-fed butter and MCT oil, which takes care of that.
Benefits
When it comes to nootropics, particular food supplements, or human-made mixtures like Bulletproof coffee certainly is, it’s quite challenging finding research and facts that would show positive benefits, or at least deny any harmful side effects.
In this case, logical thinking, combined with my personal experience, is the best we have.
I’ve done the research to understand how Bulletproof coffee works.
Luckily, I found several articles that discuss how butter can promote brain function, while MCT (Coconut oil) promotes weight-loss. [*]
Based on my personal experience, I can confirm that if you want to lose weight with coffee, you will soon see the first results.
Adding caffeine (which is a central nervous system stimulant) will end up in a relatively potent mixture of brain stimulants.
However, I couldn’t find any real study showing the consequences of drinking Bulletproof coffee every day for months or years.
We’re still too early for that I’m afraid.
The main benefits of bulletproof coffee are:
- Suppressed hunger
- Mental clarity
- Steady lasting energy
- Weightloss
So, here we have a powerful morning cocktail that tastes delicious and gives you a ton of energy.
But is it healthy to drink? Where is the trick? Are we missing something?
How Does It Work?
As you might know, coffee, in general, contains essential nutrients like B vitamins, manganese, and potassium. It also has loads of antioxidants, which reduce your risk of chronic degenerative diseases and keep your brain sharp.
Drinking coffee will make your brains sharper (the brain cells can communicate faster), and improve your mood.
Compared to regular coffee, real Bulletproof coffee contains grass-fed butter and MCT oil.
Why is this important?
Because healthy fat will sustain your energy for hours, boost your cognition, and balance hormones.
So what really happens is after you drink a cup of Bulletproof coffee, you’ll very quickly feel the effects of drinking regular coffee – improved mood and more energy.
Just that with Bulletproof coffee, the effects will be stronger, and they’ll last longer.
Much longer.
Is It Healthy?
One of the most common questions I receive is: How healthy is drinking Bulletproof coffee?
Well, first of all, drinking it is much better for your performance than eating breakfast. It quickly boosts your energy, and it improves your cognition.
But this doesn’t mean it’s healthy, right?
Well, let’s look at the facts.
- Coffee protects against liver cirrhosis [*]
- Coffee may lower risk of Alzheimer’s disease [*]
- Coffee lowers the risk of Type 2 diabetes [*]
- Drinking coffee may reduce depression and suicide risk [*]
- Coffee drinkers have a smaller chance of heart disease [*]
But since Bulletproof coffee contains healthy fats, this should provide additional benefits. For example, MCT oil provides the following benefits: [*]
- It improves our cognition
- Weight-loss
- Improves heart health
- It supports nutrient absorption
- It fights bacterial growth
- It suppresses hunger
So you can quickly see that drinking Bulletproof coffee provides a whole range of benefits.
Therefore, when taken in moderation, it should be considered healthy.
While I wouldn’t wholly substitute it for breakfast, it seems like a perfect “tool” to overcome your peaks.
How Does It Taste?
Bulletproof coffee tastes like a rich, creamy, and nuttier latte. It has a rich flavor with a slight touch of butter.
In my opinion, it tastes delicious, but you have to get used to the taste.
Recipe
So, you want to try Bulletproof coffee, but you don’t know how to prepare it? Well, let me share with you my Bulletproof coffee recipe.
The idea of getting an additional boost in the morning sounds just too thrilling, doesn’t it? I completely understand you.
To get the most out of drinking it, you have to prepare it in the right way.
I didn’t invent this mixture, but I’ve optimized it to perfection.
Here is my (and the original) Bulletproof coffee recipe:
- Organic coffee (you can buy original Bulletproof coffee or any other coffee; more info below)
- MCT oil or coconut oil
- Grass-fed butter (optionally)
- Water
Once you have the ingredients you need to:
- Brew 1 cup (8-12 ounces) of coffee
- Add 1-2 tablespoons of MCT or coconut oil (more info below)
- Add 1-2 tablespoons of grass-fed, unsalted butter
- Mix it (preferably in a blender) for 20 seconds
- Enjoy your morning cocktail
It’s that simple. It only takes a couple of minutes, and your homemade Bulletproof coffee is made. What happens after is an energy rush that will last for hours.
And this is the secret of Bulletproof coffee.
When Should You Drink It?
I often hear people wondering when is the best time of the day to drink Bulletproof coffee.
My recommendation is to drink it early in the morning, just before work.
I usually wake up around 7 AM, so I drink coffee at around 7.30 to 8 AM. My energy stays very high for several hours, usually until my lunch at around noon.
This is also the most creative part of my day when I tackle most of my challenges.
What I wouldn’t recommend is drinking Bulletproof coffee after 3 PM, because caffeine stays up to 2 days in your body (even though most of it goes out in about 6-12 hours).
Because of this fact, drinking Bulletproof coffee, which is much stronger than regular coffee, could negatively influence your sleep. [*]
FYI, once I tried it at 8 PM and couldn’t fall asleep until around 3 AM, so O would really suggest drinking it in the morning.
That’s about it. Just stick to the “morning rule,” and you’ll be fine.
Side Effects
During years of drinking Bulletproof coffee, I never experienced any adverse side effects…
…if I followed the rules:
- Don’t drink it after 3 PM
- Don’t drink more than 2 coffees/day
- Use high-quality ingredients
Side effects you can expect from drinking Bulletproof coffee are sleep issues, fast heart-beating, nervousness, and potentially jitters.
But they are very rare, and more often than not, related to a too-high amount of caffeine.
Apart from that, Bulletproof coffee is considered safe and healthy for most people.
Where To Buy It?
If you want to try the original Bulletproof coffee, then I suggest ordering it on Amazon >>
There you can find different types of Bulletproof coffee and the MCT oil (also called the Brain octane oil).
Now, when it comes to MCT oil, here is my favorite one >>
I’m sure you will love it as well.
Also, if you don’t want to buy the original Bulletproof coffee, you can use any kind of coffee for your mixture.
The Ultimate Combo
Is there something more than “just” Bulletproof coffee? Bulletproof coffee is a perfect energy-booster for you.
But if you combine it with certain nootropics, you’ll be able to improve your cognitive performance dramatically.
I usually combine Bulletproof coffee with nootropics for improving cognitive performance. That’s how we can get in the power flow every single day.
But don’t take my words for granted – try it out for yourself & you’ll see!
Here you can access my favorite nootropic stacks >>
Verdict
Based on my detailed review, I definitely recommend drinking Bulletproof coffee. It’s one of the strongest and most effective energy-boosters on the market that provides a whole range of benefits.
If you need an effective energy-booster, then Bulletproof coffee is excellent for you.

You probably don’t need more than 1 per day. Try drinking one, and if you feel like you need more (and your body can handle it), go ahead, but don’t exaggerate.
This can happen, even though it is unlikely. I do not know anyone who had issues with an upset stomach after drinking it.

Hi there, my main goal with this blog is to provide high-quality non-biased content to people, so monetizing was always in the 2nd plan. But thanks for your feedback, I’ll definitely check it out :)
I am not doing a ketogenic diet yet, but am trying a few things to see how i like them. I only drink one cup of coffee first thing in the morning per day, is it OK to drink a bullet proof coffee each morning? The other thing I am doing is intermittent fasting I am on the 10/14 plan right now. Thanks!
Hi Joanne, no matter if you are on keto diet or not, Bulletproof coffee is a great energy booster. I’m also not on keto diet, but I drink Bulletproof coffee on a daily bases (at least 5 times a week, but I try not to drink it 2 times/week just to not get “addicted”). Try it out and see how it works for you, but do expect a strong energy boost. Don’t forget to mix it with high-quality MCT oil. Let me know if you have any other questions :)
How does this affect your cholesterol, that is my only concern with using the butter.
Hi there, I was worried as well, but here is the thing – if you, in general, eat healthy food (I’d consider healthy low in carbohydrates and high in vegetables and healthy fats), then this added fats from butter and mct oil (which are both considered healthy fats) aren’t an issue at all.
I know people who are on BP coffee and monitor their cholesterol level on a 1-2 week basis while following a low-carb diet and all levels are normal! :) Hope this helps. Greg
I ordered an item with an order #786059 and Bulletproof took my money and never shipped my product. I reach customer service and they are not returning my emails or calls. This is very disappointing!
This is absolutely terrible. Where did you order it? Through their website? I’ve never heard anyone had any issues with the customer support, but I can imagine smth is terribly wrong. I’d suggest writing them again and if nothing happens, please send me the print screen of your sent emails and I’ll try contacting them to see what’s going on.
Hi, I had my first BP Coffee this morning, felt fantastic 20 mins later however about 90 mins later I felt very jittery, is this normal? Many thanks, Christine.
Hi Christine, this is strange..hm, how do you usually react to coffee? Do you feel similar effects? Did you drink enough water during this time? I’d try this as well, then we see what happens. Keep me posted :)
I appreciate that you cite scholarly articles :)
Absolutely :)
Hi! Thank you for the article. I was wondering if you ever found the effects of BP coffee to wear off. I’ve been drinking it for years but not consistently because I seem to reach a plateau. I’ll stop drinking it for a while and then start back again and the effects are good as new. Am I building a tolerance of some sort?
Thank you!
Yes yes, absolutely, you are building a “caffeine tolerance.” To avoid that happening, you can do 2 things: Either you drink the coffee during the week (and you stop it during the weekend), or you drink it for 3-4 weeks in a row, and then take a week off. Whatever is easier for you :) I hope this helps! :)
