Bulletproof Coffee Review (Updated 2019): Will It Kick Your Ass? 4.6/5 (20)

Bulletproof Coffee is an energy-booster that can increase your energy, focus and make your day super-productive. But is it really better than normal coffee? And is it healthy?

Bulletproof Coffee is one of the strongest energy-boosters on the market

It brings tons of energy without the typical caffeine crash

It tastes delicious

It takes a bit longer to prepare it

You might have to get used to the taste

What is Bulletproof Coffee?

It’s been years since I tried Bulletproof Coffee for the first time.

I heard about it from my friend who tried to convince me that mixing coffee with butter and coconut oil instead of eating my morning healthy breakfast is the way to dramatically improve my energy level and productivity.

I hesitated a bit, but finally, I decided to try it out and see what happens.

And this is my ultimate Bulletproof coffee review.

Bulletproof Coffee Review

Bulletproof Coffee Review

From this moment, I’ve been drinking Bulletproof coffee probably every week. Not only I enjoy the taste of the coffee, but the benefits that it delivers are just amazing.

Let me explain how drinking it changed my life.

The first I said to myself after I drank Bulletproof coffee for the first time was:

“What the hell is that? Damn, I didn’t expect such an energy-kick!”

You know, I am well aware of the placebo effect, but in this case, I can tell you – forget about the placebo effect.

Bulletproof coffee is a super strong energy-booster.

Yes, it definitely works and it’ll impress you, I’m sure about that.

If you want to improve your mood, energy level and probably even your cognitive performance, you should try it out.

But what is Bulletproof coffee exactly?

After I drank it for the first time, I immediately wondered if this is something I could drink over a longer period without negative side effects.

To understand if drinking it leaves unwanted consequences, we have to understand how it is made.

Bulletproof Coffee is simply coffee, blended with (preferably grass-fed unsalted) butter and coconut oil or so-called MCT oil.

I know you are asking yourself why in the hell would anyone put butter and coconut oil into the coffee?

Well, one reason could be that it dramatically increases your energy level.

Yup, mixing caffeine and healthy fats will help you have a kick-ass start of the day.

But can you handle it?

Bulletproof Coffee Benefits

When it comes to nootropics, certain food supplements or man-made mixtures like Bulletproof coffee certainly is, it’s quite challenging finding research and facts that would show positive benefits or at least deny any kind of harmful side effects.

In this case, logical thinking combined with our personal experience is basically the best we have.

I’ve made my own research to understand how Bulletproof coffee actually works.

I found several articles that discuss how can butter promote brain functionwhile MCT (Coconut oil) promotes weight-loss. [1]

Based on my personal experience, I can confirm that if you want to lose weight with coffee, you will soon see the first results.

Obviously, adding caffeine (which is a central nervous system stimulant) will end up in a relatively powerful mixture of brain stimulants.

However, I couldn’t find any real study showing the consequences of drinking Bulletproof coffee every day for months or years. We’re still too early for that I’m afraid.

Besides the studies (or the lack of them) I can admit that my experience with Bulletproof coffee has definitely been fascinating.

Every time I drink it, I get a huge energy kick that lasts for hours.

My focus increases, I get a lot of energy and I feel extra productive.

The biggest advantage of drinking this coffee is that the effects last for hours, much longer compared to just drinking normal coffee.

In addition, the “crash” that usually comes after drinking coffee never happens. This is because of the combination of grass-fed butter and MCT oil which takes care of that.

Bulletproof Coffee Benefits

Here are the main advantages of bulletproof coffee:

  • Suppressed hunger
  • Mental clarity
  • Steady lasting energy
  • Weightloss

So, here we have a powerful morning cocktail that tastes delicious and gives you a ton of energy.

But is it healthy to drink? Where is the trick? Are we missing something?

How Does Bulletproof Coffee work?

As you might know, coffee, in general, contains essential nutrients like B vitamins, manganese, and potassium.

Coffee also has loads of antioxidants, which reduce your risk of chronic degenerative diseases and keep your brain sharp.

Drinking coffee will make your brains sharper (the brain cells can communicate faster) and improve your mood.

Now, real Bulletproof coffee contains grass-fed butter and MCT oil.

Why is this important?

Because healthy fat will sustain your energy for hours, boost your cognition and balance hormones.

So what really happens is after you drink a cup of Bulletproof coffee, you’ll very quickly feel the effects of drinking normal coffee – improved mood and more energy.

Just that with Bulletproof coffee, the effects will be stronger and they’ll last longer.

Much longer.

Is Bulletproof Coffee Healthy?

One of the most common questions I receive is: How healthy is drinking Bulletproof coffee?

Well, first of all, drinking it is much better for your performance than eating breakfast.

It quickly boosts your energy and it improves your cognition.

But this doesn’t mean it’s healthy, right?

Well, let’s look at the facts.

  1. Coffee protects against liver cirrhosis. [8]
  2. Coffee may lower risk of Alzheimer’s disease. [9]
  3. Coffee lowers risk of Type 2 diabetes. [10]
  4. Drinking coffee may reduce depression and suicide risk. [11]
  5. Coffee drinkers have a smaller risk of heart disease. [12]

But since Bulletproof coffee contains healthy fats, this should provide additional benefits.

For example, MCT oil provides the following benefits: [13]

  1. It improves our cognition
  2. Weight-loss
  3. Improved heart health
  4. It supports nutrient absorption
  5. It fights bacterial growth
  6. It suppresses hunger

So you can quickly see that drinking Bulletproof coffee provides a whole range of benefits.

Therefore, when taken in moderation, it should be considered extremely healthy.

While I wouldn’t completely substitute it for breakfast, it’s a perfect “tool” to overcome your peaks.

Bulletproof Coffee Taste

Bulletproof coffee taste like a rich, creamy, and nuttier latte.

It has a rich flavor with a slight touch of butter.

In my opinion, it definitely tastes delicious, but you have to get used to the taste.

Bulletproof Coffee Recipe

So, you want to try Bulletproof coffee but you don’t know how to prepare it?

Well, let me share with you my Bulletproof coffee recipe.

The idea of getting an additional boost in the morning sounds just too thrilling, doesn’t it? I completely understand you.

In order to get the most out of drinking it, you have to prepare it in the right way. I didn’t invent this mixture, but I’ve optimized it to perfection.

Her is my (and the original) Bulletproof coffee recipe & step-by-step guide:

  1. Brew 1 cup (8-12 ounces) of coffee
  2. Add 1-2 tablespoons of MCT or coconut oil (more info below)
  3. Add 1-2 tablespoons of grass-fed, unsalted butter
  4. Mix it (preferably in a blender) for 20 seconds
  5. Enjoy your morning cocktail

It’s that simple. It only takes a couple of minutes and you’re done.

What happens after is an energy rush that will last for hours.

And this is the secret of Bulletproof coffee.

When Should You Drink Bulletproof Coffee?

I often hear people wondering when is the best time of the day to drink Bulletproof coffee.

My recommendation is to drink it early in the morning, just before work.

I usually wake up around 7 AM, so I drink coffee at around 7.30 to 8 AM.

My energy stays very high for several hours, usually until my lunch at around noon. This is also the most creative part of my day when I tackle most of my challenges.

What I wouldn’t recommend is drinking Bulletproof coffee after 3 PM.

Caffeine stays up to 2 days in your body (even though most of it goes out in about 6-12 hours).

Because of this fact, drinking Bulletproof coffee, which is much stronger than the normal coffee, could negatively influence your sleep. [3]

FYI, once I tried it at 8 PM and couldn’t fall asleep until around 3 AM, so I would really suggest drinking it in the morning.

That’s about it. Just stick to the “morning rule” and you’ll be fine.

What Are the Alternatives to Bulletproof Coffee?

Bulletproof coffee is delicious, but are there any alternatives available?

Absolutely, let me mention 2 of them: Titanium Tea and Yerba Mate Tea.

Yerba mate

Yerba mate

Titanium Tea is a mixture of Aged Pu-Erh (puer), Japanese Sencha (Green tea) or Turmeric Tea, a tablespoon of non-salted butter and a tablespoon of MCT oil.

Similar ingredients – similar effect. With one small difference.

Titanium Tea is definitely not as delicious as Bulletproof coffee is. But give it a try and you’ll see what tastes better for you.

I already wrote about Yerba Mate before (click here).

Compared to Bulletproof coffee and Titanium tea, Yerba Mate delivers the smoothest energy boost and it is definitely the healthiest alternative.

I usually drink Yerba Mate when I do more creative work.

My perfect combo is drinking Bulletproof coffee in the morning and drinking Yerba Mate tea in the afternoon.

Where To Buy Bulletproof Coffee

If you want to try the original Bulletproof coffee, then I suggest ordering it on Amazon >>

There you can find different types of Bulletproof coffee and the MCT oil (also called the Brain octane oil).

Now, when it comes to MCT oil, my favorite is this one >>

I’m sure you will love it as well.

Also, if you don’t want to buy the original Bulletproof coffee, you can use any kind of coffee for your mixture.

Actually, I often buy one of the organic coffees here >>

The Ultimate Combo

Is there something more than “just” Bulletproof coffee?

Bulletproof coffee is a perfect energy-booster for you.

But if you combine it with certain nootropics, you’ll be able to dramatically improve your cognitive performance as well.

I usually combine Bulletproof coffee with Mind Lab Pro, which is the best nootropic stack for improving your cognitive performance, clarity, and memory.

This is the ultimate combo that’ll open a completely new world for you.

But don’t take my words for granted – try it out for yourself & you’ll see!

FAQ

  • Can I use coconut oil instead of MCT oil?

The official explanation is that the “MCT oil is four times as effective as coconut oil at raising ketones, those fat-burning, brain-boosting molecules in your body.

Throwing coconut oil in your coffee won’t give the same effects. While I cannot say there is a 4X difference, I personally noticed that MCT oil is stronger, so I would recommend it.

  • Will my body crash after I drink Bulletproof coffee?

No, this should not happen because of the additional healthy fats in the coffee.

  • How does Bulletproof coffee really taste?

I can definitely say that the majority of you will love the taste. It’s a creamy-kind-of-coffee. Mmm!

  • Can I drink more than 1 Bulletproof coffee per day?

You probably don’t need more than 1 per day. Try drinking one and if you feel like you need more (and your body can handle it), go ahead, but don’t exaggerate.

  • Would you recommend drinking Bulletproof Coffee every day?

Probably not every day, but I usually drink it a couple of times per week.

  • Can Bulletproof coffee upset my stomach?

This can happen, even though it is unlikely. I do not know anyone who had issues with an upset stomach.

  • How are Dave Asprey and Bulletproof coffee related?

Dave Asprey is the founder of the company Bulletproof that produces original Bulletproof coffee.

  • Why should I use grass-fed butter?

First of all, grass-fed butter is definitely much healthier than normal butter. It contains omega-3 fatty acids, beta-carotene, vitamins A, D, E,  and antioxidants.

Besides, the saturated fat in grass-fed butter slows the absorption of caffeine, which gives you even energy for several hours instead of a caffeine spike and crash.

Your Inception Final Recommendation

Your Inception Guarantee

Based on my detailed review, I definitely recommend drinking Bulletproof coffee.

It’s one of the strongest and most effective energy-boosters on the market that provides a whole range of benefits.

While you can make it with the original Bulletproof coffee, I’m a bigger fan of organic fair-trade coffees that I buy in a local store or on Amazon.

I combine organic coffee with the highest-quality MCT oil.

VERDICT: 5/5

Hi there, my main goal with this blog is to provide high-quality non-biased content to people, so monetizing was always in the 2nd plan. But thanks for your feedback, I’ll definitely check it out 🙂

I am not doing a ketogenic diet yet, but am trying a few things to see how i like them. I only drink one cup of coffee first thing in the morning per day, is it OK to drink a bullet proof coffee each morning? The other thing I am doing is intermittent fasting I am on the 10/14 plan right now. Thanks!

Hi Joanne, no matter if you are on keto diet or not, Bulletproof coffee is a great energy booster. I’m also not on keto diet, but I drink Bulletproof coffee on a daily bases (at least 5 times a week, but I try not to drink it 2 times/week just to not get “addicted”). Try it out and see how it works for you, but do expect a strong energy boost. Don’t forget to mix it with high-quality MCT oil. Let me know if you have any other questions 🙂

How does this affect your cholesterol, that is my only concern with using the butter.

    • Greg, Founder August 14, 2018 at 5:06 am - Reply

Hi there, I was worried as well, but here is the thing – if you, in general, eat healthy food (I’d consider healthy low in carbohydrates and high in vegetables and healthy fats), then this added fats from butter and mct oil (which are both considered healthy fats) aren’t an issue at all.
I know people who are on BP coffee and monitor their cholesterol level on a 1-2 week basis while following a low-carb diet and all levels are normal! 🙂 Hope this helps. Greg

I ordered an item with an order #786059 and Bulletproof took my money and never shipped my product. I reach customer service and they are not returning my emails or calls. This is very disappointing!

    • Greg, Founder October 27, 2018 at 6:04 pm - Reply

This is absolutely terrible. Where did you order it? Through their website? I’ve never heard anyone had any issues with the customer support, but I can imagine smth is terribly wrong. I’d suggest writing them again and if nothing happens, please send me the print screen of your sent emails and I’ll try contacting them to see what’s going on.

Hi, I had my first BP Coffee this morning, felt fantastic 20 mins later however about 90 mins later I felt very jittery, is this normal? Many thanks, Christine.

    • Greg, Founder February 3, 2019 at 8:34 am - Reply

Hi Christine, this is strange..hm, how do you usually react to coffee? Do you feel similar effects? Did you drink enough water during this time? I’d try this as well, then we see what happens. Keep me posted 🙂
